Meet the Staff

The WBBL and TN Volcanoes AAU coaches and instructors are here to provide you and your family with the best youth basketball experience possible! We go above and beyond to make all players and their families feel welcome, informed, and a part of the WBBL organization. We are proud to bring you a group of highly accomplished coaches, motivational leaders, and exceptional administrators.

Robert is a lifelong player and teacher in the West Knoxville basketball community. With over 25 years of attending and coordinating camps and clinics across the USA he is one of the most influential basketball mentors around. Robert is constantly expanding his basketball knowledge to better equip his coaches and athletes. His dedication to studying the game of basketball allows for the WBBL to bring the most modern skills and training methods to Knoxville.

This lead admin, instructor, and highly successful coach began as a 3 year varsity basketball player at Fulton High School. Appointed as the team captain her senior year, Jen led the Falcons to the programs furthest point in post season games than any Fulton Girls team in history to that point. After graduating she took on the role as a Volunteer Assistant for 2 years at Fulton High School.

Jennifer Hayes has and continues to play an important role to the success of the WBBL. Jen now oversees and assists with the off-season development classes, preseason instruction classes, and is a WBBL coach. She has an outstanding ability to work with children of all age groups and has been one of our most successful coaches in the WBBL and City Tournament. Jennifer is also highly involved in Special Olympics of Greater Knoxville she is on the organizations board and helps run 9 local sporting events annually. As a coach she has also won 2 TSSAA Unified Track and Field State Titles. 

Caitlin Mize

Caitlin Mize

6th Grade Lady Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Mize was a 3-year starter, 3-time conference and regional champ, and all-region player at Crystal Lake South High School (Illinois). Out of high school she committed to playing basketball at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During her time as a 3-year starter, her team won 4 conference championships, which advanced them to 4 NAIA National Tournaments. During her collegiate career Mize and her team made it to the Elite 8 at the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history and were awarded with the all-time win record in school history that same year. Individually, she received awards for Most Improved Player, Honorary MVP, Champion of Character Award at the NAIA National Tournament, and All-Conference Academic. She graduated cum laude with her Bachelor's degree in sociology and social work.

Mize joined the WBBL coaching staff in September 2014, after relocating from Wisconsin. Since joining the WBBL she has become a lead instructor for the Offseason Development and Preseason Development classes, she was a founding coach for the TN Volcanoes AAU program back in 2016, and has served as a head coach for both boys and girls teams in the WBBL rec league.

In the Fall of 2016 Mize returned to graduate school at UT. During her time in graduate school she received the Chancellor's Honor's Award for Extraordinary Community Service and Graduate Student Service Award for the work she was doing within her department, the basketball community, and the City of Knoxville. In 20018, Mize graduated magna cum laude with her Master's degree in environmental criminology from the University of Tennessee. She has since taken on a full-time role with the WBBL overseeing marketing and communication, and recently took on a coached the #2 West Valley Middle School girl's basketball team during their 2019 Fall Ball season.

Mize will help to oversee the Lady Volcanoes AAU Basketball Program. She will serve as the head coach for the 6th grade team and step-in as a special skills coach for the 4th/5th grade girls team.

Gilbert Abraham

Gilbert lives in North Carolina but is a Nationally acclaimed Basketball Skills coach. His clients include: Raymond Felton (LA Clippers), Marvin Williams (Charlotte Hornets) Justin Jackson (UNC), Sash Kailleya-Jones (UK) as well as many of the elite Youth players that are on the way to the NBA Jalek Felton, Joey Baker, Blake Harris, Jordan Ratliffe. Gilbert and Robert collaborate often and share successful teaching strategies and techniques.

Kendall Acho

Kendal Acho

Development Instructor & WBBL Coach

Kendall played basketball in Belleville, MI at Belleville High School. There she was a 3 year starter as a shooting Guard and a two time Regional Champion. Acho was awarded with the All-Conference player award and All Metro-Detroit player award. She also played softball (all Conf), volleyball, and golf (all Conf).

Kendall attended Sienna Heights University and obtained a degree in Communications and Journalism. There she played basketball where her team made several NAIA National Tournament appearances. Kendal received the Conference Champion of Character award at the 2011-2012 NAIA National Tournament. 

Kendall received her graduate degree from Marshall University and now is the Chief Operating Officer at Firstdown Playbook, where she works alongside Charlie Coiner and Mike Singletary (former football players).

Nicky Anosike

8th Grade Girls Volcanoes AAU Head Coach & AAU Skills Instructor

Former Lady Vol standout Nicky Anosike has joined the TN Volcanoes AAU program, and is serving as the Head Coach for the Lady Volcanoes Girl’s 8th grade teams, as well as the TN Volcanoes AAU skills instructor. 

Anosike, a four-year starter at UT from 2004-08, helped lead the Lady Vols to NCAA National Championships in 2007 and 2008, earning NCAA All-Final Four Team accolades on both occasions. In 2005, she became a World Champion with the USA U-19 Team. She also aided the Big Orange in claiming three SEC Tournament titles and one regular season crown, garnering SEC All-Freshman status in 2005. Anosike was known as a powerful player with a strong presence on the court as well as in the locker room. Her vocal leadership was instrumental in UT’s 2007 and 2008 NCAA title victories. 

Also a fantastic student, Anosike was named a CoSIDA Second-Team All-American in 2008 and earned SEC Academic Honor Roll acclaim all four years. As a senior, she was named to the SEC Community Service Team and was a finalist for the SEC’s Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Award, capping a well-rounded résumé that helped her earn distinction as the 2008 NCAA Woman of the Year.

After her college career, Anosike was drafted by the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx in the second round with the 16th overall pick. The 6-foot-4 center was named to the 2008 WNBA All-Rookie Team, selected as a 2009 WNBA All-Star, and was awarded the First-Team WNBA All-Defense Award in 2009. She played from 2008-10 with the Lynx, in 2011 with the Washington Mystics, and in 2012 with the Los Angeles Sparks before retiring. 

Allysia Bailey

5th Grade Lady Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Growing up Bailey was a 4-year varsity starter (2003-2007) at Bearden High School. During her 4-years as a point guard and shooting guard, Bailey was awarded All KIL (4 years), Prep Xtra 1st team and 2nd team (4 years), All District 1st team (2 years), and All District 2nd Team (2 years). Bailey was also Prep Xtra 1st in Free Throw Percentage (91.2% in 2006-2007), a Prep Xtra top in 2pt FG made (70%), and Prep Extra top in 3pt FG mad (61%). 

After graduating from BHS, Bailey went on to play at Walter's State Community College from 2007-2009. She was a starting guard both years she played. During her time at Walter's State Bailey was award All Tournament 1st Team, All Conference ('07-'08), was a major contributor to leading her team to two NJCAA conference championships ('07-'09).

Bailey then took her talent to Cumberland University from 2009-2010, where she played point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Bulldogs basketball program. She received All conference and District 1st Team awards for the '09-'10 season before a knee injury forced her to resign. 

Bailey joins the Lady Volcanoes as the Head Coach for the 5th grade girls team!

Jevaughn Barnes

Development Instructor & WBBL Coach

Barnes if originally from Detroit, Michigan. There he played Varsity Baseball and Basketball at Farmington High School where we won a League Championship once in each sport, city champion 2 times in baseball, and 1 time in basketball. Barnes graduated from Farmington High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan in 2017.

Jevaughn played D3 Baseball at Adrian College for 1 season during the 2017-2018 season. He is currently a Junior at The University Of Tennessee where he is pursing a masters degree in Sports Management with the aspiration to be a Sports Agent. Barnes is also a current assistant boys basketball coach at St. Joseph’s middle school.

Barnes has been an active volunteer doing work in Detroit for 5 straight years before leaving for college which including “Hashtag Lunch-bag Detroit” where he made lunches and passed them out to the homeless, and “Kicks for Kids Detroit” where we provided new shoes to and for kids in need.

Barnes is currently an assisting the WBBL with preseason development class and coaching during the WBBL rec season. 

Chris Cook

Chris is a Knoxville native. He attended West High School where he was a part of the men's basketball team. Chris then went on to play 2 years of basketball at Roane State Community College before transferring to Barton College for his final 2 years. At Barton Chris was an integral part of the basketball team. He totaled 15 points and 24 rebounds his senior year. Additionally, his junior and senior year Chris was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court. The NABC recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. 

Chris loves coaching and helping kids not only become better at basketball, but also inspiring them to become better people. Chris has been a WBBL instructor for 3 years in the offseason. He is currently training in Los Angeles pursuing a career in the NBA.

JT Cook

6th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Coach

Cook grew up and went to school in West Virginia. There, he played basketball, football, and ran track throughout high school. He was a 2-year started his junior and senior year. Additionally, his senior year his team made it to the 3A State Championship and finished runner-up. 

Cook was a 3-year letterman football player, was first team All-District defensive back his junior and senior year, and All-State defensive back his senior year. 

Cook has coached in the Hardin Valley Youth Sports league and coached the boys all-star teams in that league for various age groups. Cook has also served as an assistant coach in the WBBL reg league and TN Volcanoes AAU program last season.

Cook will serve as the assistant coach for Jamie Smith and their 6th grade boys TN Volcanoes team.

Dustin Cox

Dustin Cox

2nd/3rd Grade Lady Volcanoes AAU Assistant Coach

Dustin's basketball career started in middle school, when he played for WBBL for a year. In high school Cox played in the Roane County city league for two seasons, making it to a championship both times. Cox was a leader on the floor, controlling the game and his team in assists and points. Following his championship season he was picked out of 200 kids to be the starting point guard for the City's all-star team. His team went undefeated and won by double digits every game. His senior year Cox was too old for the city league and school ball, and so began his coaching career.

Dustin started coaching the city league 8 to 9 year old girls team. His first year he took his team to the semifinals in the playoffs. The following season Cox coached the city league 15 to 18 year old boys team. He had another successful season taking his team to the championship where he lost by just one point. After that season Cox accepted a great job, got married to a wonderful woman, and now has a beautiful 1-year old daughter. 

Cox returned to coaching in 2017-2018 where he has coached in the WBBL ever since. He has been a long time assistant of Coach Cody Graves and will join him this AAU season as the assistant coach for the 2nd/3rd grade Lady Volcanoes team.

Errika Doane

8th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Coach Doane started playing basketball at the age of 5. She participated in Pat Summit’s camps and played in the AAU championship at Thompson Boiling Arena at age 13. She graduated from Anderson county high school.

She obtained her undergraduate degree at Tennessee Technological University and a graduate degree from the University of Tennessee. Errika has coached basketball and soccer for 15 years. She strives to bring out the best in each player and increase their love for the game




Trever Ferguson

Trever attended West High School from 2009-2013 where he played basketball for 4 years and was a 2-year varsity starter. He was part of the first and only team in West boys' basketball history to go to state in 2011. While in high school Trever attended the WBBL developmental program all four years. 
After graduating from West High School Trever then became an instructor and coach with the WBBL.
He also went on to major in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee of Knoxville. 

Trever remains a development instructor with the WBBL and will be graduating in December 2019 with his bachelor's degree. Following graduation Trever has plans to pursue a career in additive manufacturing.

Bryan Gee

Bryan Gee

Development Instructor & 9th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Gee attended high school at Cornerstone Christian Academy where he was named to the first team All-State and All-District, NCSAA and Regional Player of the Year. Gee averaged 17.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 steals per game as a senior. He set high school records for points, assists, and the most winningest player in Cornerstone Christian History.

After graduating Gee attended Longwood University where he was apart of the men's D1 basketball team from 2014-2018. His 2015-2016 season Gee was one of only four players on the team to appear in every single game. Throughout his college career Gee was averaging career highs in minutes, shooting percentage, rebounds, assists, steals and points per game. 

Following college, Gee went on to play in the Dominican Republic for a short period of time. He is now the owner of several companies and soon be franchise owner of a restaurant here in Knoxville.

Bryan joined the WBBL staff in the 2019 Preseason and is the head coach for the 9th grade boy's TN Volcanoes AAU team.

Cody Graves

Development Coach, WBBL Head Coach, & 2nd/3rd Grade Lady Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Growing up Graves played AAU basketball. He later played on the Bearden High School freshman team.
Since graduating from high school Graves has received his associates degree and plans to continue on to radiology school.  

Graves has become an important part of the WBBL Offseason and Preseason Development classes. During the 2019-2020 rec season, Graves coached three teams for the WBBL including a 7-8 year old girls team, 13-14 year old boys team, and 15-17 year old boys team. He has a passion for coaching basketball and mentoring student athletes.

Graves will serve as the head coach for both the 2nd/3rd Lady Volcanoes AAU teams. 

Josh Gregory

Development Instructor, WBBL Coach, & 7th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Josh's basketball journey began as a WBBL player and then a competitive AAU player while growing up. He received his first major success in basketball when he won the state championship at Webb Middle School. He continued his basketball career to become a 3 year starter at Oak Ridge High School. There he won a District and Regional Championship, and in 2008 played a critical role to leading his team to a State Tournament appearance during his senior year.

Post high school graduation Josh participated as a collegiate basketball and football at Tennessee State and eventually transferred to finish at Tennessee Wesleyan. During his playing time at Tennessee Wesleyan Josh and the Bulldogs took home 2 Conference Championships.  

Joshua has been a coach and trainer with the WBBL for over 7 years. He has helped the league grow being one of the original coaches for TN Volcanoes AAU program. He has been one of the WBBL's lead instructors for off-season development, preseason instructions, and a WBBL coach. 

Josh also has experience coaching on the middle school and high school levels where he is currently the JV boy's basketball coach for Farragut High School.

Garrick Hrivnak

9th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Garrick Hrivnak played both basketball and football while attending Collierville High School.  On the basketball court, he found success playing both center and forward for his team. While on the football field, Garrick was a 3 year starting quarterback.  Garrick began his college athletics on the Arkansas State Football team. He transferred to the University of Memphis and participated as a quarterback on the U of M football team for 2 years.  Now Garrick focuses his passion for athletics into coaching. He has been coaching and instructing basketball for the past 10 years.  

Hrivnak will be entering his fourth AAU season with the TN Volcanoes and will oversee the 9th grade boys team during the 2020 season.

Hunter Huff

Development Instructor & Coach

In high school Hunter played at Hardin Valley Academy all 4 years. He is still trying to pursue a college basketball career at the University of Tennessee, but a torn meniscus has been effecting his ability to do so.

Hunter started coaching with WBBL right after he graduated high school. He was an assistant for two years with 11th, 10th, 6th and 5th grade Volcano teams. Recently, he has become the head coach of a 6th and 7th grade boys Volcanoes teams. 

Since graduating high school, Hunter has focused on individual basketball training with high school and college players. He is also an important part and lead instructor for the development classes.

Currently, Hunter is a full-time student at the University of Tennessee.
 

Kaylin Johnson

10th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Head Coach & AAU Skills Instructor

Named a 2008 second-team 3A All-Louisiana performer, Johnson led Parkview Baptist High School to the 2007–08 District 8-3A championship. He averaged 17.4 points, five rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game as a senior. Johnson was a four-year member of the men’s basketball program at Samford University, playing under Brevard head coach Lee Burgess. During his career, he appeared in over 80 games for the Bulldogs. He received the Most Improved Player Award following the 2009-2010 season. Johnson spent the fall of 2012 as a student assistant with the men’s basketball program at his alma mater, Samford University. Johnson's duties as a student assistant included breaking down opponent’s film, assisting with film exchange, and also serving as a student manager during practice. He graduated from Samford in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Administration and a minor in General Business.

Johnson joined the Brevard men’s basketball program during the 2012-2013 season. After 8 seasons with him he was promoted to Associate Head Coach in July 2018. In his time with the Tornados, Johnson helped head coach Lee Burgess turn the Tornados into a consistent contender for postseason play. He helped mentor two SAC Players of the Week and a first team all-state and all-conference selection in 2014-2015.

Johnson recently moved to Knoxville, TN to take over as head boy’s basketball coach for Sacred Heart Cathedral School. He will become the head coach of one of our TN Volcanoes AAU team this coming Spring and lead our AAU skill sessions.

David Kraski

Development Instructor & WBBL Coach

David has 15 years of basketball experience. He has played in several leagues in Knoxville (Upward, KYS, Sacred Heart, WBBL,West High School, and AAU). During his time at Sacred Heart David won 2 state tournaments. Additionally, he was All KIL and All District during his time playing at West High school

David coaches in the WBBL Rec season and is a valuable asset to our Preseason Development classes. David joins the Lady Volcanoes AAU program as the assistant coach for the 6th grade girls teams.

Noel Landrum

11th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Coach

Landrum is finishing up his 11th season as a head middle school coach. He currently is the head coach at West Valley Middle School, where he served as the assistant coach for 3 years before becoming the head coach for the past 4 years.

Landrum played 2 years of collegiate basketball at Miami University-Hamilton and 2 years of collegiate basketball at Ohio (Jr. College). 

Coach Landrum joins the TN Volcanoes AAU program as the head coach fo the boys 11th grade team. 

Dallas Malone

7th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Coach

Malone was a 3 sport athlete (football, basketball, and baseball) as South Green High School. He was a 3-year varsity starter in these sports, with basketball being his favorite. For the past 14 years he was played, watched, and studied the game the basketball. 

Malone currently coaches a 13-14 boys basketball team in the WBBL rec league, and will oversee the 7th grade boys TN Volcanoes basketball team during the Spring 2020 season. 

Brandon McGill

8th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Head Coach

Brandon attended Knoxville Central High School and graduated in the class of 2006. During his time there McGill was a 4-year varsity basketball player and starter 3 years. He played point guard and shooting guard during his 4 years. All KIL Senior Year.

McGill attended Volunteer State Community College. There he was a 2-year starter and received an All-Conference Award.McGill then transferred to Maryville College where he was a 2-year starter, Conference Champion, and played in NCAA Div III tourney. During his senior year Brandon was the Leadership Award winner.

Brandon McGill has coached several years with the WBBL during the rec season. He is now the 8th grade boys head coach for the TN Volcanoes AAU program.

Bryson Newman

Bryson Newman

5th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Coach

Newman was a 3-year started on the mens basketball team at Halls High School. There he primarily played the point guard position; however, he also played down in the post as well. Newman was a 3-time all-district and 2-time all-region player. His senior year Newman averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assist, 2 steals a game. He scored an all-time high of 39 points against Central High School his senior year. 

Newman has coached rec basketball with the WBBL for the past 4-years. This is his second year coaching AAU for the TN Volcanoes.

Jamie Smith

6th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Coach

Smith was a 4-year started on the mens basketball team at August Christian High School in Georgia. There he played strong forward. He was an important part of his team's State Championship win his senior year. 

Smith is an active member in the Knoxville community and now joins the TN Volcanoes as head coach for one of our 6th grade boys teams.

Blake Von Hagen

7th Grade Boys TN Volcanoes AAU Coach

Von Hagen was a 3-year varsity starter for the Knoxville Ambassadors basketball team. He played wing for Ambassadors and during his senior year he was averaging 20 points a game. He helped lead his team to 2nd in the Division. He is a University of Tennessee alumni.

Von Hagen currently coaches a 13-14 boys basketball team in the WBBL rec league, and will be an assistant for the 7th grade boys TN Volcanoes basketball team during the Spring 2020 season. 

Will Winton

Development Instructor & Coach

Graduating from Bearden High School in the class of 2011- Will was a 4 year varsity letterman and walked away from BHS with 3 state tournaments, and 1 state runner-up under his belt. His overall high school record of 136-13; 4 time District Champ  and 4 time Region Champ led to him signing with Bryan College (1 year) out of High School.  Since transferring, Will is now finishing up his collegiate basketball career and academics at Maryville College.

Will Winton is a WBBL veteran instructor and coach. After assisting commissioner Robert Hewgley for many years, Will took over the lead instructor position of the WBBL for the development classes. Will is one of the longest WBBL's lead instructors for our off-season and preseason development courses, a veteran WBBL coach, and a mentor to all the athletes and coaches in the league.
