WBBL Practice Protocols

WBBL Practice Protocols

Respect the Facilities and Other Teams

  • Enter the building only through your assigned door. If unsure, ask Robert or check the assigned door list.
  • Arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your practice start time.
  • If doors are locked at your start time, call Robert at 865-258-3786. Please do not bang, yank, or try other doors.
  • KAEC Specific: Bearden High School teams use the gym until 6:00 PM. Please wait until 6:05 PM to enter.

Doors Must Never Be Propped Open

Especially at Pond Gap and Cedar Bluff Elementary.

If absolutely necessary, contact Robert immediately at 865-258-3786.

Coaches Must Always Supervise Players

  • A head coach or assistant must be present with players at all times.
  • If the coach will be late or absent, call Robert to approve another responsible adult to cover. Do not assign someone without Robert’s approval.
  • Players should never be left unattended in the gym.

Use Only the Gym and Closest Bathrooms

  • No wandering hallways or entering other rooms.
  • Use the assigned bathroom and return directly to the gym.
  • If unsure about which bathroom to use, call Robert at 865-258-3786.

No Dunking or Hanging on Rims

Some gyms have sensors to detect this and it could result in losing gym privileges.

Do Not Touch Gym or Building Equipment

Leave all gym equipment, decorations, and fixtures as they are. No playing on stages or going behind curtains at any facility.

No Unattended Children (Non-Players)

  • All non-playing children must sit with their parents during practice.
  • Children watching practice should not roam the hallways alone.

Water Only — With a Lid

Only water in containers with lids is allowed. No other food or beverages.

Finishing Your Practice

  • Be respectful of the next team’s practice time — practices are scheduled back-to-back.
  • Clean up the gym and bathrooms: throw away trash, paper towels, water bottles, etc.
  • Collect any personal items left behind by your team.
  • No shooting around after practice.
  • Players must never be left alone in the gym or facility. Coaches should stay until all players are picked up.

Last Practice of the Night Responsibilities

  • Lower the basketball goal back to 10 feet.
  • Return the goal crank to where you found it or a visible, accessible spot.
  • Do a final pick-up of trash and water bottles in the gym and bathrooms.
  • Organize lost and found items into a neat pile.
  • Leave on time — some gyms (Pond Gap, Cedar Bluff Elementary) are very strict.
  • Be out the door within 2 minutes after practice ends.

Continue to review any gym-specific guidelines provided separately.
